The total price of a carport consists of several individual items that are often underestimated. Taking a closer look at these points will help you plan a realistic budget.
Foundation
A carport must be permanently stable. Point foundations or concrete slabs cost around $2,500–5,000, depending on size and soil conditions. Metal structures usually require a stronger foundation.
Support structure
The material used is the biggest cost factor. Wood is cheaper, but requires maintenance. Aluminum and steel are more expensive, but virtually maintenance-free and extremely durable. Snow load zones increase the material costs even further.
Roofcovering
Polycarbonate, trapezoidal sheet metal, glass, green roof, or solar roof—the choice has a significant impact on price and function. Photovoltaic or green roofs increase the investment, but offer additional benefits.
Installation
Professional installation usually costs between $2,500 and $4,500. Special constructions, sloping sites, or difficult access can make it more expensive. Professionals also take care of anchoring, alignment, and structural requirements.
Additionalequipment
Side walls, equipment cabinets, lighting, power outlets, or a wall box for electric cars increase comfort and functionality—and, accordingly, the price.
